SER H.S. and J.S. v. Hon. J.D. Beane, Judge, et al., No. 18-0208 - Petitioners are foster/preadoptive parents to a five year old child who seek a writ of prohibition to challenge a circuit court order that grants visitation to the child’s paternal grandmother and paternal aunt.

Charles Patrick Heaster v. Gregory L. Robinson , No. 17-0558 - Petitioners appeal the grant of respondent’s motion for judgment as a matter of law in the proceeding to remove respondent from his elected position on the Doddridge County Commission.

WV Investment Management Board and WV Consolidated Public Retirement Board v. The Variable Annuity Life Insurance Company, No. 17-0486 - Petitioners, the West Virginia Investment Management Board and the West Virginia Consolidated Public Retirement Board filed breach of contract and damages claims against respondent below, The Variable Annuity Life Insurance Company(“VALIC”). Petitioners argued VALIC should have paid out $248,345,458 from a 2008 annuity contract in a single lump sum, rather than paying that amount in five equal installments from 2009 to 2013. State of West Virginia v. Michael Dwayne Cooper, No. 17-0357 - Petitioner appeals the circuit court’s order revoking his probation and sentencing him to his underlying sentence of one to three years of incarceration in this criminal matter.

Mateo Cortez v. Linda Murray, et al., Nos. 17-0662 and 17-0942 - In Docket No. 17-0662, petitioner appeals the order of the Circuit Court of Wirt County, entered on or about June 30, 2017, granting declaratory judgment and identifying the beneficiaries (and their proportionate interests) of the William D. Short and Phyllis D. Short Revocable Living Trust. In Docket No. 17-0942, petitioner appeals the order of the circuit court, entered on September 19, 2017, that denied his motion to alter or amend judgment.
