K.L. Maerz, State Law Librarian, has been employed by the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals since August 2004.  She directs and oversees the daily operations of the State Law Library, supervising a staff of two librarians and two library assistants.   She prepares annual budget and statistical reports and coordinates acquisitions, collection development, and staff training. She instructs patrons on print and electronic resources, including training Court personnel on Westlaw.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Ms. Maerz previously worked in private, corporate and academic law libraries.  She was Manager of Library Services for the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Library, Reference Librarian at Wayne State University and the Detroit College of Law (now Michigan State University School of Law), and Technical Services Librarian at the Detroit law firm Dykema Gossett PLLC.

Employed as the Technical Services Librarian since 2002, Janet Nicholson manages day-to-day operations of the serials, cataloging, and processing functions of the Library. She oversees the Library's Integrated Library System (ILS), maintains the Library‚Äôs online public catalog, and manages the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service. Janet supervises the Library's Technical Services Assistant.

Janet previously worked as Serials Librarian at West Virginia State College (now West Virginia State University) and as a Library Technical Assistant at Glenville State College.

On staff since December 2013, Vanessa provides legal reference service to the general public, local attorneys, and judges, clerks, and staff of the West Virginia judicial system utilizying print and electronic resources. Vanessa also answers requests for legal information from inmates in West Virginia correctional institutions. She developes and coordinates instructional and outreach programs, creates presentations, guides, bibliographies, flyers, and newsletters and contributes to the Library's website. Vanessa supervises the Library's Public Services Assistant.

Jimmy Carpenter

Jimmy Carpenter has been employed by the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals since 2001.  He is responsible for receiving and processing monographs, serials, government documents and microfiche.  Jimmy files looseleaf updates and maintains the library collection through space planning, weeding and shifting materials.  He assists patrons, provides ready reference service, and performs general office duties.

Barbara Hayes has been with the WV State Law Library since 1998.  She assists at the Library Information Desk, answering phone calls and providing ready reference support to the Library's Reference and Instructional Services Librarian.
